a foreign language is a significant part of our studies due to the
globalization. Some experts hold the belief that it is better for children to
learn a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary school. I
think the benefits of this outweigh the drawbacks.
Children
can better understand a foreign language if they start to learn it earlier.
When they are at primary school, they do not have too much homework and their
schedules are flexible. Therefore, they can take more time and energy in
studying foreign languages. They have sufficient time to review what they have
learned in the class.
Besides,
it is easier for children at that age to achieve their potential and learn
something new, because their brain is still developing. For example, if adults
want to learn a foreign language, they find they cannot memorize it well. But
when these adults are children, they can learn to master their native
languages.
On
the contrary, it also has a disadvantage. Children at primary school are supposed
to have happy and cheerful child lives. If they begin to learn a foreign
language at that time, they may lose their spare time for other extra
curriculum activities, which will also affects their developments of hobbies.
To
sum up, though encouraging children to study a foreign language at primary
school may make them lose some of their time, I believe its benefits outweigh
