Nowadays animal experiments are widely used to develop new medicines and to test the safety of other products. Some people argue that these experiments should be banned because it is morally wrong to cause animals to suffer, while others are in favour of them because of their benefits to humanity.

Discuss both views and give you own opinion.

My answer

It is true that the development of medicine industry and other fields is relied on the animal experiments in modern society. Although it is immoral to conduct such experiments which make animals live miserably, I think we should continue these experiments to save human’s life nowadays.

Animal experiments take the cost of animal’s life, which is unethical definitely. Firstly, taking animals into labs from their original living environments can destroy their family. For example, lots of mother rats lose their babies because their babies are ‘lucky’ enough to be selected to make contributions for humans. Secondly, the experiments using animals reflects the selfishness of human being since these experiments just bring great benefits to people rather than animals. Lastly, using animals to satisfy people’s interests is a kind of bully in essence, which is not different from the behavior that the bigger people hit the weak.

The non-pride nature of animal experiments is true, the advantages of these experiments, however, can’t be denied. With these experiments, researchers can learn the negative consequences of new medicines before patients take them and improve the quality of these new products. It is these experiments that make medical industry make progress and save lots of people’s life. What’s more, since every product has to have a trial basis before publicizing, scientists now have no choice but using animals. We can’t imagine the results if the subjects of these experiments are human.

In conclusion, I admire that the animal experiments is morally wrong, but we shouldn’t ban them considering the necessity of experiments and the benefits these experiments bring.
