Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important or too valuable to be shared freely.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

In current society, the problem of whether to share information in the areas of scientific research, business and the academic world has triggered a heated discussion. Some believe that it is beneficial to share as much information as possible, while others consider that some information should not be freely shared.

It is reasonable for some people to think more shared information would boost scientific research and economy. The first recognition is that the share of information accelerates the development of scientific research. For instance, when the solutions to some specific problems once get disclosed, other researchers who have confronted the same problems could move on to further study with the help of this solution. In addition, the share of knowledge of another subject could make a big difference in the research concerned with disciplinary tasks. For example, artificial intelligence techniques could free farmers from labor-consuming works, which could only be realized by the means of professional knowledge on agriculture.

However, there are some dissenting voices about this debate. Opponents believe that some information is so valuable that it should not be obtained freely. Firstly, businessmen rely on some market information to earn benefits therefore they are unwilling to share the information to the public. For example, in the stock market, if the big holders announce that they will soon sell out  a great deal of stock, other small holders would sell out immediately and the big holders would suffer from a big loss. On top of that, the share of information may give rise to privacy disclosure and internet fraud. When we buy items on the Internet, we leave our addresses and phone numbers. If such information is also shared, the society would face severe safety problems. At last, the free source of information would lead to copyright argument as well. In this case, not sharing the information actually acts as a protection of the right of the original author or researcher.

Overall, sharing information as much as possible could generate a series of problems such as copyright problem and privacy disclosure. Therefore, I think limited free information should be encouraged.
