Nowadays, people are living in a world filled with an overwhelming number of consumer goods, and the increase in production of such goods has been posing a threat to the environment. In my opinion, several reasons are responsible for this problem.

First, a majority of producers are in lack of environmental consciousness. When producing products, they are more likely to give priority to profit instead of thinking about the pollution they may cause. As a result, both our water and air were polluted by the emission produced during the process of production. Second, most of the consumer goods are often wrapped with a layer of plastic package or contain some plastic parts, which can not break down easily. Thus, the more goods being produced, and the more damage they will bring to the environment.

To deal with this challenging problem, I think it is governments’ responsibility to take some practical measures to improve the environment. In this case, it is essential for the manufacturers to realize their responsibilities to the whole society. For example, some regulations can be released to prevent producers from releasing polluted water and poisonous gas. Meantime, governments can encourage the producers to use more environmental- friendly materials in packaging by giving them financial rewards. Also, governments need to make an effort in helping consumers change their consuming habits and reduce the use of plastic package and goods.

In conclusion, emission and the widely use of plastic materials in producing consumer goods could be the main reasons for the pollution, and I think that both the government and manufacturers, as well as consumers should take their responsibilities to help with this problem.
