The earth is growing more and more connected nowadays. As a result, understanding culture from other countries is essential. Some people argue that working at an international organization is the best way to learn exotic culture while I disagree with this point of view.

  It is true that being an employer for a multinational company can help undertand foreign culture. People from differnt cultures getting together to cooperate. They can see what foreigners’ lifestyle are like and their behaviors in daily life. Although these can also be learnt through the Internet, there is nothing to compare with seeing those in your own eyes. People would affected by other countires even without noticing it. During the process, they would understand the exotic culture since they have already experienced it.

  However, not everyone would have a chance to work in an international organization. I beleive there are other ways that plays an equal or even better role in learning a culture. An example is traveling; tourists come to other areas to visit local museums there. Comparing with working with foreign colleagues, it is more possible to learn history and traditions of the local residents in museums or tourist attractions. This is because most people seldom talk about that in their daily life while museums or attractions are designed for the spreading of culture. In addition, usually the guide would talk about the cultural differences in different places to tourists so that plenty of conflicts can be avoided. For example, people mean saying “no” when shaking their heads in most countries while in some specific areas it means “yes”. Imagine a persom keep explaining a simple thing to a foreigner and ask if he understand or not while the foreigner keeps shaking his head. We can avoid this kind of misunderstanding by learning freom the guide in advance.

  All in all, despite the fact that working in a multinational environment is of helpful to understanding other cultures, traveling would be a better choice to achieve this purpose.
