People are surrounded by advertising and there is an increasing effect on our lives. Do you think positive effects outweigh the negative effects?

Recent years have seen a dramatic expansion of advertising industry, which comes with ineluctable impacts on our daily lives. From my own perspective, I believe the upsides outweigh the downsides.

It is undeniable that there do exist some problems of advertising. For example, excessive advertising can sometimes be misleading, bringing an unfavorable buying experience. This is because corporations spend prohibitive efforts on propagation in order to boost sales, which in return sparks the problem of poor-quality. In that case, the consumers can be attracted by the rhetorics but end up being dispirited with the product.

Nevertheless, there are also numerous positive effects to enumerate. One paramount one is that proper advertising enables us to know the features of certain product, making our life more convenient. We are now living in a hectic life, which makes it nigh impossible for individuals to learn the details of every item we purchase. Therefore, advertising can act to promote brand recognition. To illustrate such case, in China, when people thinking of the traditional beverage Baijiu, the first brand comes to mind is Moutai, a label famous for its dedicate taste. Thus, advertising promote efficiency when choosing commodities. Additionally, advertising help the public to choose better products most of the time because generally speaking, only big firms have the budget to do advertisement, and large scale companies tend to have better quality.  

In conclusion, advertising is beneficial and necessary in our life albeit it sometimes can be counterproductive if not properly conducted. To benefit the whole industry, all companies are responsible to find their balance between advertising and product quality.
